HIPAA Training

HIPAA training is offered through two platforms: Brainier and CITI. Training requirements are typically prompted in one of two ways:

  • When an individual begins a position at Emory that their supervisor indicated involves access to PHI, or
  • When a student's academic program requires HIPAA training.

The Office of Ethics and Compliance does not manually assign or enroll individuals in HIPAA training. It is the responsibility of each individual or student to enroll in the appropriate course once they receive notification that training is required.

See below for information regarding available courses and how to enroll, trouble shooting tips, and other issues.

HIPAA Training Course Information

See below for information on which courses you are required to take and how to enroll.

HIPAA training courses are available in two systems, Brainier and CITI. The Office of Ethics and Compliance does not manually assign HIPAA compliance training courses. The requirement for training courses is typically triggered when an individual's profile/role is entered into PeopleSoft or their or when it is required for students by their school. As a result, the individual or student is required to enroll in HIPAA training once they receive notice to do so. Below is a table explaining who is required to take which HIPAA training courses.
